Paris is an enchanting destination, abundant with remarkable sites, vibrant markets, and, of course, breathtaking views from the Eiffel Tower. You can enjoy many of these attractions during a weekend in Paris.
All of them are easily accessible and incredibly enjoyable.
Ultimately, Paris is a city that evokes a sense of wonder and excitement. Experiencing it in person only enhances this sentiment. One notable aspect of Paris is its diverse offerings catering to varying preferences.
Thus, to optimize your weekend in the city, I have compiled a list of my recommended activities for a weekend in Paris. Enjoy your exploration!
What to Do in Paris
Famed for its rich history, art, culture, architecture, and fashion, Paris provides a fulfilling experience for every visitor.
A visit to The Eiffel Tower is essential! Ensure you secure those Eiffel Tower tickets in advance to avoid disappointment as they tend to sell quickly, particularly during sunset hours.
Along with The Eiffel Tower, no trip to Paris is complete without visiting the splendid Cathédrale Notre-Dame. You can even enjoy the thrilling experience of an organ performance on select evenings at no charge.
Furthermore, I highly recommend dedicating at least one night to savoring the charm of French cinema.
The allure of French cinema never ceases to captivate me. Moreover, with a delightful complimentary experience in Paris at Parc de la Villette open-air cinema, we have every reason to indulge in a cinematic adventure.
This is a delightful way to pass a warm summer evening, complemented by olives, sweet treats, and perhaps a glass or two of wine.
Paris is revered among the globe’s shopping capitals, offering everything from haute couture and Parisian markets to local art. It will certainly awaken the inner fashionista within you.
For the savvy shopper, capitalize on seasonal sales at renowned destinations, such as Galleries Lafayette, which regularly hosts end-of-season sales.
If shopping is your passion, late summer represents an optimal time to visit. For those who prefer to avoid the crowds, consider planning ahead and utilizing online promotions that unlock discounts in-store.
If vintage and antique shopping appeals to you, make your way to the Bouquinistes, which comprises approximately 250-300 licensed stalls lining the quayside, beckoning exploration.
Each time I visit the quayside, I indulge in purchasing a vintage postcard from one of the Bouquinistes market stalls situated near the Louvre.
Typically dating from the late 19th century and costing only a few euros, they carry a wealth of fascinating history.
Many of these postcards were once sent to family members and friends. I find it thrilling to translate the messages inscribed on the postcards when I return home.
The last postcard I acquired was written to a nephew from his aunt in 1898, expressing how delightful the city was and her desire to share her experiences upon returning to Brussels. How charming!
Where to Eat in Paris
Although I cannot place my finger on it, I tend not to get overly enthusiastic about them. Nevertheless, no visit to Paris is complete without at least sampling one, even if it is a compromise for me (Yaya abstains completely).
If I had to express a favorite, it would be Pierre Herme – their macarons did indeed impress me (thanks to your persuasion directed at Yaya), and I am confident that if you are inclined toward macarons, you will be enamored by this establishment!
Have you ever dreamed of dining on the Champs-Elysées, adjacent to the Arc De Triomphe?
It is prudent to remember that this location is a tourist hotspot and prices can be higher. Therefore, planning ahead and seeking online deals prior to your visit is recommended, as any savings can be applied to entry fees for one of Paris’s numerous museums and galleries.
Where to Stay in Paris
With thousands of hotel options in Paris, determining where to stay can be overwhelming! It is particularly difficult to find accommodations that offer both uniqueness and good value for your money.
If you desire a distinctive night’s stay in Paris, consider a room at Hotel Le Bellechasse, where you will find uniquely styled and beautifully appointed rooms designed by Christian Lacroix!
The décor is quintessentially Parisian; upon discovering this hotel, I was instantly captivated. With prices around £100 per night, it is competitively priced for a designer luxury hotel situated in the heart of the city. Interestingly, each room features its own unique design, contributing to a quirky and enjoyable experience during your stay!
If you prefer the comfort of a home-like environment while remaining budget-conscious, consider arranging an apartment rental.
This option provides the feeling of truly immersing yourself in Paris. You can prepare meals in your own kitchen, relish stunning views of the city, and plan your evenings from the comfort of your Parisian sanctuary.
