The Denver Art Museum (DAM) is a wonderland for art lovers, consisting of two unique buildings with fascinating architecture. The modernist Martin Building, designed by Italian architect Gio Ponti, houses the museum’s extensive collections of global and Native American art. Note that the Martin Building is currently under renovation, with phases of reopening anticipated. The fabulously strange and interactive art installation/music venue Meow Wolf is planning its second location in Denver, scheduled to open sometime in 2021. This new exhibition promises to be a different immersive art experience from the original in Santa Fe, while still maintaining an interactive vibe. Speculation suggests that Denver’s version may incorporate virtual reality along with live performances, a concept yet to be fully unveiled.
The Best of Denver’s Performing Arts
Denver’s art scene extends beyond visual arts; the city boasts numerous venues showcasing performing arts groups and high-quality productions regularly. The Denver Performing Arts Complex stands as one of the largest performing arts centers in the U.S., playing host to the Denver Center for Performing Arts, Colorado Ballet, Colorado Symphony, and the Colorado Opera. DPAC organizes year-round performances and traveling productions across its five theaters and outdoor venue.

While taco shops might not seem like an expected addition to this list, Denver proudly embraces taco-making as an art form. The harmonious integration of Latinx culture and hungry crowds fuels this evolving taco canvas.
For classic taco flavors, El Taco de Mexico is a family-owned staple since 1985 and deserves recognition as a top destination. For unique taco creations, consider Los Chingones. Chef Troy Guard’s “badass” (his term, not ours) cocktail and taco concept has expanded to include five locations throughout Denver. At the original RiNo site, the jalapeño popper taco paired with a T&T is a must-try.
If you seek the trendiest spot, visit Tacos, Tequila, Whisky. The City Park location previously had lines wrapping around the corner, but with two additional spots in the Highlands and Governor’s Park, procuring a spicy snack is more manageable.
Lastly, for a family-friendly experience, head to Adelita’s. With ample booth seating, attentive staff, and excellent food, you can enjoy a fish taco and margarita while kids relish quesadillas and engage in coloring. The lively atmosphere keeps the energy high, just like the kids.
