When rescuers from the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) arrived in the remote Milgis Lugga region of Kenya to airlift an abandoned baby elephant to its sanctuary, they discovered two orphaned ostrich chicks keeping him company. The decision was made to airlift all three together, resulting in a successful journey. The elephant, now named Wass, first encountered trouble when he became trapped in a well and was separated from his herd. Although he was rescued, attempts to reunite him with his herd by Milgis Trust scouts were unsuccessful.
