- Arrival in Milan
- Rickshaw Tour Adventure
- Exploring Milan and Beyond
We arrived late in the evening in Milan for our trip across Italy.
Fortunately, we didn’t have extensive plans for the first evening aside from meeting the organizers of the rickshaw tour and fellow participants over drinks and snacks, allowing for a quite relaxing evening… (prosecco certainly aids in that!).
The following morning, we woke up bright and early to prepare for our rickshaw pickup.
Before long, we enjoyed espressos and pastries, and set off to pick up our rickshaw, humorously named “Bee Beep.”
In Italian, “rickshaw” translates to “Ape” and from there, “Ape” is interpreted as “Bee” in English, hence the quirky name! I instantly adored the name!
As you might expect, there’s limited space in the rickshaw for luggage, so careful packing of a compact backpack was essential!
If you’re curious about the guy in the center, that’s Gabriele Saluci, an Italian vlogger. He is one of the most entertaining and charismatic Italians I’ve met, and his ability to speak Italian was a fantastic advantage during this trip.
With our rickshaw secured, I decided to take a brief detour to explore Milan before kicking off our main journey.
It’s worth mentioning that driving in Milan was a new experience for us all. Although the rickshaw enables you to access places that may be challenging with a standard car, we still managed to wander aimlessly for nearly an hour around Milan (which honestly allowed us a unique way to see the city).
Before long, we were back on the road, taking in the sights of Milan. Consequently, we parked the rickshaw and made our way to the magnificent Duomo (Milan Cathedral) and the stunning Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
Ideally, we would have preferred to linger in Milan to bask in the sunshine (as our previous visit had been marred by rain and cold), however, our adventure was scheduled to kick off much earlier, and notes from the WhatsApp group indicated that other participants had already set out on their journeys (although each of us was headed in different directions, all aiming for the Amalfi Coast in due course).
We bid farewell to Milan with fond memories, hopped back into our rickshaw (of course, not without indulging in another espresso) and commenced our journey through the picturesque countryside heading towards the beautiful Amalfi coast…
