This day in Bavaria was all about nature. Although we started off looking to see amazing palaces and castles, taking a moment to appreciate Germany’s stunning countryside was an incredible way to spend the day!
After leaving Walchensee, we ventured to find the tallest mountain in all of Germany – the Zugspitze!
Surprisingly, I was unsure of what to expect when we headed to this picturesque site (having never visited before). Yet, once we arrived in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, just a few minutes from our hotel, we were greeted by breathtaking views that required a pause to fully appreciate!
Little did I know that we would be heading up there in just a few moments.
At the base of the Zugspitze, there’s a cable car ready to take you into the mountains. While it is a bit pricey (around €56), the experience is worth every cent. Here are some tips:
- a.) Ensure you leave enough time to explore the area (you can use your pass multiple times on the same day).
- b.) Check the weather; on cloudy days, the view from the top can be very limited.
As we ascended the mountain, although the view was partially obscured by clouds, the scenes we encountered were nevertheless awe-inspiring.
Consequently, despite arriving shortly before the last cable car down, our time was well spent at the summit, albeit with limited visibility.
Heading back down, we made our way toward one of Bavaria’s most picturesque sites, Lake Eibsee.
As Lake Eibsee came into view during our descent, its size was striking, giving a sense of tranquility and beauty that surpassed our expectations.
The lake is accessible through a short walk from the cable car station, and we eagerly set off to find its enchanting shores.
We’re surrounded by locals enjoying the sunny weather, and the entire atmosphere is inviting and joyful.
After our enjoyable explorations, we spent the remainder of the evening basking in the picturesque setting and soaking in the tranquility.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is also known for its skiing culture, making it an excellent base for winter sports enthusiasts.
After a fulfilling day filled with exploration and wonder, we made our way back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen for a well-deserved dinner, having enjoyed a multitude of breathtaking sights throughout our adventure.
