Mekong River Cruises: Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection Launches the Mekong Jewel
The best river cruise line in the world has just launched a brand-new ship on the Mekong River, sailing between Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection is recognized as the premier choice for river trips, as GoTravelDaily readers noted in 2019. This recognition stems from their “beautiful, one of a kind ships,” “excellent food,” and “impeccable service.” Guests can now experience that same luxury aboard the newly built Mekong Jewel, a 68-passenger ship that commenced its inaugural journey this month.
Ship Features and Accommodations
The all-suite ship is only slightly larger than the existing Mekong Navigator, which it will replace. The new ship features:
- Two onboard restaurants offering local and Western cuisine
- An outdoor bar
- A library
- A lounge
- A small swimming pool
- A spa
- A sauna
Each room is designed with colonial decor, featuring ceiling fans, Louis XIV chairs, and brocade wallpaper. The marble bathrooms are exceptionally spacious, and most guest cabins boast private balconies, while a dozen suites feature smaller French balconies.
Environmental Initiatives
The ship also incorporates features aimed at reducing its environmental impact, such as:
- Propellers designed to enhance performance and efficiency
- Energy-efficient LED lighting
- Automatic air conditioning controls
- A water-cooled air-conditioning system that conserves energy
According to a Uniworld statement, these initiatives reflect a commitment to sustainable cruising practices.
Itineraries and Cultural Experiences
Currently, the ship operates just one itinerary, a 13-day journey between Ho Chi Minh City and Siem Reap, making multiple stops at charming small towns along the river. Guests have the flexibility to start their cruise in either Vietnam or Cambodia, depending on their departure date.
One of the highlights of this cruise includes access to the historic Angkor Wat and a visit to Cambodia’s Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, which involves a scenic bus transfer from the ship. Additionally, guests can explore the Vietnam War-era Củ Chi tunnels. Ample opportunities for cultural tours of villages, temples, craft workshops, shopping, and savoring local street food are also available.
Rates for these extraordinary trips start at $5,499 per person, which includes nearly all amenities, a hallmark of Uniworld ships.
