Summary
Why I Will Always Be A Traveller
My love for travelling started at an early age, and I remember the very first long-haul family vacation to Antigua!
I particularly remember how much I loved the journey: the buckled seat belt that clicked in with ease, little pear-flavored sweets to suck that alleviated my “ear-popping,” and views that transported me from the cloudy weather at home to a mesmerizing blue sky where you could see deep into the stratosphere. It was—and still is—a magical experience!
Memorable Childhood Experiences
I recall pressing my face against the airplane window for what felt like hours until my parents organized a big surprise: they had kindly asked the captain if I could sit in the cockpit, and he agreed once we were in the air! I sat in awe of all the “robotic” buttons and instruments, marveling at the insights the pilot shared, including spotting other planes as they raced alongside us. You have no idea how incredible I felt having that experience!
From that moment, I knew I wanted to be a pilot! Unfortunately, as fate would have it, my color-blindness prevented me from reaching that goal. Nevertheless, my aspiration to become a pilot did not diminish. Instead, I have channeled my energy into something equally fulfilling: traveling.
Despite not becoming a pilot, I still hold a romantic view of hopping on a plane and being whisked away to distant lands. However, as I’ve grown older, I’ve come to realize that my desire to travel is more about seeking new experiences.
Importance of Experiences
My experiences are significant, from thrilling activities, such as whale watching in Iceland and skiing in the Austrian Alps, to serene moments, like enjoying Moussaka in Samos or taking a small catamaran with my mom in Barbados—although we were both scared as we were tossed around the deck!
Sharing these experiences with loved ones and friends is one of the primary reasons I document my travels. It is a way to share insights and learn through experiences, creating a tapestry of memories.
Conclusion
I have come to understand that everyone is a traveler in their unique way. We all embark on journeys, whether they are figurative, symbolic, or literal; traveling ultimately boils down to experiences and connections.
Despite my longing to be a pilot, I now truly appreciate the significance that my experiences bring to my identity as a traveler.
