Experience the Breathtaking Iceman Ötzi Peak
Stunning views of the Italian Alps, once reserved for adventurous hikers, can now be enjoyed by all at Iceman Ötzi Peak, a new observation platform situated 10,666 feet above sea level.
Design and Structure of the Observation Platform
Local architectural firm Noa designed and constructed this remarkable deck, featuring vertical steel slats that enable visitors to approach the edge for an unparalleled view. Notably, one section is partially enclosed in glass and extends from the platform, emphasizing the site where Ötzi—the world’s oldest glacier mummy—was uncovered. With minimal support beams beneath the steel structure, Iceman Ötzi Peak is engineered to provide guests with the captivating sensation of floating above the stunning mountainous terrain.
How to Reach Iceman Ötzi Peak
The journey to this summit atop the Schnals Valley Glacier ridge commences in Maso Corto. From there, visitors can take a cable car to the mountain station and the Glacier Hotel Grawand, which is recognized as the highest hotel in Europe. Subsequently, a newly installed staircase will guide you for a safe 10-minute walk to the viewing platform.
Natural Beauty and Historical Significance
Moreover, alongside the breathtaking mountainous landscape and the “snowfield of the Similaun,” where Ötzi was discovered, visitors can also admire the Giogo Alto Glacier. The watershed marking the border between Italy and Austria is visible from Iceman Ötzi Peak as well, along with the centuries-old Transhumance path. This path has been recently designated as a World Heritage site by UNESCO, acknowledging its historical significance as a seasonal migratory route for livestock.
Visitor Information
Iceman Ötzi Peak is now officially open and free for visitors. For further details regarding visiting this novel observation platform, please check the glacier cable car company’s website.
