Disney’s Plan to Create Senior-Friendly Communities Across the U.S.

Disney’s New Venture in Residential Living

Disney is embarking on a new journey in California, launching a unique initiative referred to as Storyliving by Disney. This venture is aimed at creating master-planned residential communities. These thoughtfully designed neighborhoods will encapsulate small-town charm, resort-inspired aesthetics, and delightful Disney touches. The inaugural development will be Cotino, conceived as a Storyliving by Disney community, nestled in Rancho Mirage, California, conveniently located near Palm Springs in the picturesque Coachella Valley.

The Greater Palm Springs area holds a special place in Disney’s heart; Walt Disney and his family enjoyed time there, making it an ideal location for the first Storyliving community. Disney Imagineers are diligently working on the conceptual framework, collaborating with builders and developers to manifest this grand vision. Furthermore, Disney cast members will play a role in community management, ensuring that residents enjoy exceptional service and detailing. A club membership will provide exclusive access to unique experiences and amenities, making it a remarkable place to reside.

Walt Disney’s Connection

This community is designed to accommodate residents aged 55 and above among the neighborhoods, facilitating a magical retirement experience for Disney enthusiasts. Homebuyers of all ages can select from a range of residences, including estates, single-family homes, and condominiums. The plans outline a stunning 24-acre oasis with a vibrant turquoise lagoon, complemented by a waterfront clubhouse that invites leisure and water activities.

Moreover, a beachfront hotel, along with a shopping, dining, and entertainment district, is also part of the envisioned development for Cotino, further enhancing its appeal.

History of Disney Residential Communities

In a statement shared by Josh D’Amaro, the chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, he expressed, “For nearly 100 years, Disney has shared stories that have touched the hearts and minds of people all around the world. As we prepare to enter our second century, we are developing new and exciting ways to bring the magic of Disney to people wherever they are, expanding storytelling to storyliving. We can’t wait to welcome residents to these beautiful and unique Disney communities where they can live their lives to the fullest.”

The concept of establishing a residential Disney community may seem familiar. Epcot, for instance, was influenced by Walt Disney’s vision for the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, which aimed to utilize innovative technologies and urban planning. Additionally, the creation of Celebration, a master-planned community near Walt Disney World Resort, and the exclusive residential enclave Golden Oak, developed on Disney World property, showcase the company’s previous endeavors. Cotino marks the next innovative step, with Storyliving by Disney eyeing additional U.S. locations for future expansions as well.
