Katy Perry’s Christening

Over the weekend, pop star Katy Perry fulfilled her role as godmother of the new cruise ship Norwegian Prima, christening it in Reykjavik, Iceland. This ship marks the inaugural vessel in Norwegian’s new Prima category, designed to elevate entertainment, dining, and luxury experiences.

At a length of 965 feet and a capacity of 3,100 passengers, Norwegian Prima may not be the largest ship in Norwegian’s fleet, but its size is beneficial for accessing more ports. Nonetheless, it features extravagant amenities that elevate the onboard experience.

Frank Del Rio, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., stated, “With her stunning design and unique offerings, Norwegian Prima is in a league of her own. As the industry’s most spacious new cruise ship featuring ‘only-available-on-Prima-experiences,’ she continues NCL’s legacy of industry firsts.”

Among the innovative features are the ocean’s first three-level racetrack, the world’s fastest waterslides at sea, and the most suite categories of any cruise ship afloat, totaling 13. Notably, this ship boasts several other significant attributes, including the first open-air food hall; the largest interior, ocean-view, and balcony cabins; as well as the most pool deck space in the fleet.

Additionally, Norwegian Prima will feature high-design public spaces such as the Mandara Spa, which includes a stunning two-story waterfall. Moreover, guests can explore high-tech offerings at the Galaxy Pavilion, where virtual reality experiences and simulators, including a TopGolf option, are available.

The private areas are equally impressive, particularly within The Haven. This ultra-luxe “ship-within-a-ship” area provides suites with 24-hour butler service along with access to a private sundeck which features an infinity pool, restaurant, and lounge.

Inaugural Voyages

Norwegian Prima will engage in a season of inaugural voyages in the upcoming months. The first departure is set for Sept. 3 from Amsterdam, cruising through Northern Europe with ports of call in Berlin, Germany; Tallinn, Estonia; and Stockholm, Sweden. Subsequently, it will cross the Atlantic to Galveston, Texas, hosting an 11-day Caribbean itinerary in October. Finally, it will spend most of the winter based in Miami and Orlando (Port Canaveral), offering five-, seven-, and nine-day Caribbean trips.
