Lifestyle brand Palisociety has recently unveiled a new property in West Hollywood, California, and founder Avi Brosh provided an insightful tour.
It’s midweek in early December, and hoteliers Avi Brosh and Kirsten Leigh Pratt are radiating excitement about their newest venture, Palihouse West Hollywood, which is the latest addition to their family-owned lifestyle brand, Palisociety.
Open to guests as of December 2, 2022, this 95-room establishment signifies a remarkable transformation of a 1984 structure that previously housed The Orlando Hotel, nestled within the bustling West Third Street shopping district.
Palihouse West Hollywood
- The hotel’s strategic location on Third Street provides easy access to impressive shopping and an array of popular local restaurants, making it a surprisingly walkable area.
- Guests can savor delightful meals at the hidden Mezzanine Sushi restaurant, featuring Japanese-inspired small plates accompanied by a live DJ.
- The hotel’s decor strikes a balance between quirky and sophisticated, with brushed-velvet beds and striking green vinyl tables in every room.
Brosh, the creative mastermind behind Palisociety, and Pratt, who manages branding and marketing efforts, have meticulously influenced every element of the hotel. Their distinct aesthetic breathes new life into each space, presenting charm and character intertwined.
The entrance, once perceived as “dowdy,” has been rejuvenated, now illuminated by marquee lights and a grand green door. Upon entering, the lobby boasts striking flower wallpaper adorning the ceiling, complemented by custom seating arrangements patrolled by life-size dog statues. Warm wood paneling and shell-shaped sconces contribute to the inviting atmosphere—quirky yet undeniably charming.
One of the initial design focuses was to introduce an array of light fixtures while avoiding a showroom-like appearance. Many of the fixtures are custom designed, including a notable ‘P’ added to the lobby’s central globe pendant.
To the right of the lobby, a previously windowless storage space has been transformed into an inviting lounge featuring custom couches, vintage accessories, and playful jungle-themed wallpaper. Meanwhile, guests can discover the hotel’s dining options to the left.
The Lobby Lounge Cafe and Bar integrates multiple functions, including serving coffee, functioning as a bar adorned with a striking checkerboard backsplash, and providing an outdoor patio overlooking Third Street. The unique furnishings, including a cozy curved banquette, lend a home-like atmosphere to the venue, making it ideal for enjoying breakfast or casual meals.
With offerings like avocado toast, brulée grapefruit for breakfast, and a later menu featuring burgers, lobster tacos, and tuna tartare, the culinary experience is adaptable and delicious. For dessert, attendees can indulge in treats from the famed Magnolia Bakery.
On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, guests can venture upstairs to the exclusive Mezzanine Sushi. The vibrant atmosphere includes a significant focus on sake and a central u-shaped counter reminiscent of authentic hand-roll bars, offering tantalizing small plates to enjoy while listening to live DJ performances. Notable dishes include savory garlic chicken wings and yellowtail collar, creatively designed by Chef Casey Lane.
The guest rooms, located on the second through fifth floors, further showcase Brosh’s talent for transformative design. Every aspect—from brushed velvet beds to the customized cabinetry—is thoughtfully curated, with a signature ‘farm table’ style enhanced by an easy-to-clean green vinyl surface.
Regarding room functionality, Brosh notes, “I’m not a big fan of desks in hotel rooms—they just become catch-alls. This table serves multiple purposes, allowing you to work, dine, or socialize comfortably.”
For stunning views spanning West Hollywood, north-facing rooms are particularly desirable. Among the room options, a 660-square-foot suite boasts an expansive patio with a clear sightline to the Hollywood sign, while south-facing rooms present delightful views of the meticulously redesigned pool deck—a picturesque spot for relaxation on warm days in Southern California, complete with complimentary lemonade and sweet treats.
As we stroll around the pool area, Brosh makes small adjustments to the patio furniture, revealing his attentive eye for detail. This attention transcends individual locations; Brosh and Pratt oversee a growing portfolio of 14 properties, with nine more slated to open within the coming 18 months.
Pratt emphasizes their hands-on approach, stating, “Our philosophy is quite organic—we discuss ideas over wine and explore our creative visions together.”
Accommodations at Palihouse West Hollywood begin at $295 per night. To keep up with the latest from Palisociety as it continues to expand, feel free to follow @palisociety on Instagram.
