I’ve traveled to Pisa before, but this recent trip pleasantly surprised me, offering new experiences and insights! During this visit, I managed to explore more attractions and appreciated different aspects I missed previously, resulting in a refreshing perspective on this charming Italian city. I have plenty of valuable information for your own adventure in Pisa, whether it’s your first visit or not. Let’s dive in!
1. Transportation Options
If you’re planning a visit to Pisa, consider taking a day trip to Florence and vice versa. They are conveniently located about 50 mins to 1 hour apart by bus or train, with tickets starting as low as £6 each way. You wouldn’t want to miss either city, even if it’s just for a weekend!
2. The Leaning Tower of Pisa
While the Leaning Tower is undoubtedly the most iconic landmark in Pisa, it’s essential to remember that it’s just one of many awe-inspiring attractions in the area. Although it captures significant tourist attention, there are other impressive sites nearby depending on your interests.
3. The Cathedral
The Cathedral of Pisa is a hidden gem, often underestimated. Inside, it boasts exquisite architectural details that are far more captivating than many travelers believe. In fact, some might argue it’s even more breathtaking than Florence’s famed Duomo!
4. Exploring the Baptistry
For the best view of the Cathedral, head to the Baptistry. There’s a cleverly designed window cutout that allows fantastic photo opportunities!
5. Dining Recommendations
Always carry a bottle of water while exploring! Even if it’s empty, utilize the water fountains situated throughout Pisa to refill it.
After visiting the attractions, a delightful dining experience awaits at a restaurant at the first junction near the Leaning Tower. It’s on the corner of Via San Ranierino and Via Cardinale Maffi Pietro, serving delicious freshly made pizza, salad, and drinks for about €7.
6. Traveling to and from the Airport
The train from Pisa Airport to Pisa Centrale station takes as little as 5 minutes. From there, you can conveniently walk to the leaning tower and other attractions. If you’re traveling in a group, consider taking a taxi; however, exploring Pisa by foot is also highly rewarding!
7. Exploring by Foot
Be prepared for potential queues if you plan to climb the Leaning Tower, and allow enough time for this during your itinerary. Parking in Pisa is reasonably priced, making it ideal for those who wish to drive and explore the sights without issues finding a space.

During my visit, we made sure to capture the necessary tourist photos. It’s a must-do! A bit of twisting and turning was required to achieve those perfect snapshots.

Next up, we headed to the Cathedral, where I was truly struck by the beauty and exquisite decorations, especially the golden ceiling!
Our next destination was the Camposanto Monumentale, an exceptional example of Gothic architecture featuring corridors that lead to stunning encounters at every turn!
In summary, the restaurant offers freshly made pizza, salad, and a drink for around €7—a fantastic bargain without any sacrifice in quality!
