Amberley Castle and English Vineyards: A Culinary Journey

The next day at Amberley Castle, I woke up to surprisingly heavy rain! It had been so sunny the day before, and the rain was the last thing I’d expected.

Being British, however, we learn to roll with the punches when it comes to the weather, so we didn’t skip a beat and decided to enjoy a long and leisurely breakfast at the castle! (I kid you not, we were the last to leave the room for breakfast).

A Delightful Breakfast at Amberley Castle

Breakfast here is also pretty amazing! You start off with a buffet for cereals, fruits, and generally cold items, and then order off the menu what you’d like.

The food is so good! It’s the first time in ages that I’ve actually enjoyed scrambled eggs (and salmon) at a hotel. I tend to avoid scrambled eggs most of the time—it often seems like the easiest yet ironically the worst food you can get in some hotels. Therefore, it’s a delight indeed when it’s done perfectly, as it was in Amberley Castle—it really is one of my ultimate breakfast tests.

After breakfast, I ended up doing pretty much nothing but chilling, reading, and listening to the calming sound of the rain outside until, eventually, a familiar rumbling in my tummy reminded me it was time for lunch.

Lunch at The Townhouse

For lunch, we headed to The Townhouse, where we’d been the day before (it came highly recommended by locals and even on Tripadvisor) but had arrived too late for lunch. Consequently, we made reservations and decided to arrive early.

The easiest trick to enjoying great meals while traveling is to seek recommendations from locals or previous diners, whether it’s from a blog like this, a local recommendation, or on review sites. The Townhouse turned out to be a fantastic fit for our tastes!

The freshly baked homemade bread came out still warm, and our starters—scallops for me and tomato soup for Lloyd—were perfect! Soup always seems to taste better when it’s pouring rain outside.

For mains, we both opted for the steak with an extra portion of asparagus. Asparagus has become one of those interesting foods I’ve grown to love, especially since I first tried it at a farmer’s market in Seattle many moons ago, and I’ve been taken with it ever since.

Dessert for me was a honeycomb cheesecake (deliciously delightful), and Lloyd opted for a baked chocolate mousse with vanilla ice cream!

Dinner at The Parsons Table

Dinner, just like our earlier lunch, was at another highly recommended establishment we attempted to visit the day before but couldn’t as they had finished serving lunch.

This time, we visited The Parsons Table, and it delivered on all its promises of a delightful meal.
