We arrived back at the Wood Norton, slightly too early for dinner, and decided to unwind at the bar with some pre-dinner cocktails. The Espresso Martini is notably famous here, and with little persuasion, I opted for one while Lloyd chose a glass of red.
Totally glad I did – might be the hunger speaking, but that drink is absolutely delicious!
Dinner featured a remarkable five-course meal that started with amuse bouche (I can’t help but giggle at that term!).
Of course, drinks naturally had to include bubbly. Admittedly, it didn’t have to be, but given the setting—a stately home paired with a vintage car—anything else simply wouldn’t do for the evening.
We proceeded with a dish of pâté (for Lloyd) while I opted for pigeon—a first-time experience—and found it quite delightful.
A sorbet was served shortly after, cleansing our palates…
…followed by my favourite course of the meal (even more than dessert 🙂 ), the lamb! *licks lips*
Lloyd went for rabbit (which he truly enjoyed—his first time experiencing it too).
Dessert was Crème Brulee (no surprises here, right?—I suspect I may have a Crème Brulee addiction).
Exhausted from an early London start, I retired to bed, eager to see what the Cotswolds had in store for us the next day.
The following morning, it was clear what the Cotswolds held—rain, rain, and more rain!
No Brit worth their salt will be deterred by a little rain, so after a splendid breakfast (one of the best I’ve had in quite a while), we hopped into the car and set off in search of picturesque English towns and villages.
We commenced our adventures in Bourton-on-the-Water—quite aptly named for the weather we experienced. It genuinely felt as if the skies opened wider, unleashing rain in torrents.
With umbrellas ready, we wandered this quaint village for a while before I exclaimed, “Sod it, I need cake!”
A delightful aspect of our exploration in Bourton-on-the-Water (we might simplify it to BOTW) was the abundance of tea houses. Before long, we indulged in delicious teas and freshly baked scones with jam and clotted cream!
After re-energizing (and with the rain easing a bit), we ventured to explore more of this charming locale. Allow me to show you around…
By this point, we had spent the entire day wandering through the charming Cotswolds, visiting bookstores and vintage markets. We decided to head back to The Wood Norton—there were cocktails beckoning, and what’s the point of staying somewhere magnificent if you don’t get to relish it? 😉
