Summary
We arrived in Gdansk on a rather cold Friday night. It was so late by the time we arrived that we barely saw anything of the city, and since it was our first time in Poland, I must admit we didn’t know what to expect. Nevertheless, the four of us—Lloyd, Georgia, Chris, and I—had used a birthday celebration as an opportunity to visit this beautiful city. Consequently, we were quite eager to explore Gdansk properly the very next morning after breakfast, of course!
From the very beginning, I was thoroughly impressed by the vibrant architecture here—it’s probably easy to see why.
Seeing the fountain made me wish for warm weather; I would love to run through those rings. Even in the freezing cold, I was still tempted to do it but thought better of it.
The most striking aspect as we meandered through the streets was how colorful Gdansk was. It was lively, vibrant, and filled with unexpected hues. I have to admit, my pre-trip research had been somewhat lacking due to our busy travel schedule lately, making the experience even more surprising when we arrived.
Gdansk also features one of the most impressive market buildings I have ever seen, showcasing its historical richness and architectural splendor.
Gdansk’s market building still showcases its original foundation, a testament to the city’s rich heritage.
As the day went on, our meandering finally led us to the heart of the Old Town of Gdansk, which absolutely surpassed my imagination and made me wonder why we had never visited Poland (as a whole) before.
This journey has proven to be a delightful surprise, and as such, represents just a glimpse of what Gdansk has to offer.
