Through the years, my experiences in Miami have only deepened my love for this bustling destination. With iconic beaches, Art Deco architecture, and culinary delights influenced by Cuba and beyond, Miami is ideal for a memorable weekend getaway. Furthermore, Miami conveniently provides access to remarkable locations across Florida, such as the stunning Everglades and the breathtaking islands of the Florida Keys—both easily accessible from the city.
To make the most of your Miami adventure, I’ve compiled a list of must-visit places to ensure you have an unforgettable experience. Enjoy your time in Miami!
1.) South Beach
When picturing Miami, South Beach likely springs to mind. Known as the East Coast’s iconic beach, its stunning turquoise waters and smooth sands set the stage for a perfect day, particularly if you rise early enough to experience the breathtaking sunrise.
While South Beach may attract large crowds, don’t let that deter you. You can still find quieter spots to enjoy a relaxed afternoon. Moreover, this area is a lively hub featuring numerous bars and restaurants. If you seek a fun afternoon, stop by Wet Willie’s for a refreshing frozen cocktail or enjoy some of the best tacos at Kantina.
Along Ocean Drive, many bars enhance the experience, making it an ideal location to unwind after some time in the sun at South Beach.
2.) Art Deco District
Whether drawn to unique architecture, beautiful art, or simply stunning views, the Art Deco District is a must-see when visiting Miami. Located adjacent to the South Beach shoreline, this historic district boasts incredible Art Deco buildings that are unique to the city.
To explore this architectural marvel, consider joining an Art Deco segway tour, which offers a fun and informative experience. Remember to secure your tickets in advance, especially during the peak tourist season.

Little Havana embraces Miami’s vibrant Cuban culture with a passionate community contributing to its diverse atmosphere. This neighborhood, nestled between South Beach and the airport, is truly captivating and one of the most enjoyable spots to visit in Miami.
Be sure to visit the Calle Ocho Walk of Fame, where you’ll find stars commemorating famous Cuban icons. Following that, take a stroll through Tamiami Trail, where the Cubaocho Museum narrates the fascinating story of Cuba. Additionally, indulge in a meal at El Toro Loco Churrascaria, known for its delectable juicy steaks.
For a sweet treat, visit one of the charming Cuban cafes and try the Arroz con Leche (a delightful rice pudding, especially delicious with a sprinkle of cinnamon). Alternatively, indulge in some of the world-famous Cuban ice cream at Azucar, especially their café con leche and abuela maria flavors.
4.) Coconut Grove
Coconut Grove, one of Miami’s oldest neighborhoods, has roots dating back to the 1800s. Located south of downtown, this area is filled with lush greenery, restaurants, hotels, shops, and cultural venues that reflect its Bahamian heritage, making it a delightful place to explore.
When visiting, be sure to check out the Kampong Botanical Garden, which is ideal for a peaceful stroll. Given the humidity, it’s wise to dress in layers for comfort.
Be sure to make your way to Monty’s, a lively bayside spot where you can enjoy a delicious frozen Miami Vice cocktail, adding to the fun atmosphere.

Though it’s located 8 miles from Downtown Miami, Coral Gables is an extraordinary destination worth visiting, particularly for the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.
This expansive garden spans 83 acres and features an impressive array of both rare and common tropical plants. Visitors can embark on a self-guided or tram-led tour of this botanical wonderland. Be sure to allocate at least three hours to explore its beauty.
7.) Key Biscayne
Key Biscayne is a hidden gem, tucked away south of Miami, famous for its tranquil beach atmosphere. This little island is connected by the Rickenbacker Causeway, making it easily accessible for visitors.
If you’re looking for a relaxing day, head to Key Biscayne Beach or the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. Both locations offer beautiful, serene natural landscapes. You can even rent a picnic pavilion for a small fee at the state park and enjoy overnight camping for just $20 per night.
For a delicious meal, head over to Narbona, which serves some of the finest Uruguayan cuisine in Florida, particularly their generously-stuffed Chivito Uruguayo sandwich.
8.) Wynwood
If you appreciate vibrant street art, Wynwood is a must-visit in Miami, showcasing incredible outdoor murals, providing a unique and colorful atmosphere just north of Downtown.
Be sure to visit the Wynwood Walls, an outdoor street museum showcasing colorful murals painted by talented artists worldwide. This will undoubtedly shift your perspective on what a canvas can be.
Once you’ve appreciated the art, savor a casual meal at The Taco Stand, where you can grab some of the best tacos in Miami. Don’t miss their carne asada taco with extra beans and a delicious Quesadilla.
9.) Bayside Marketplace
The Bayside Marketplace is an exciting location filled with shops, restaurants, and lively music that sets the perfect background for an early evening outing. We enjoyed spending a few hours here, and it’s easily accessible if you are near Bayfront Park.
While at the Marketplace, stop by La Industria Bakery, famous for its delicious bacon waffle sandwich, a local favorite.
10.) Venetian Pool
Over a century old, the Venetian Pool in Coral Gables is a captivating destination worth the visit while in Miami.
This stunning pool, set in a converted rock quarry, is a unique spot to relax, wander, or take a refreshing dip. The atmosphere might even transport you to Italy.
Admission is just over $20 per person, making it a worthwhile experience for some relaxation and fun. Also, while in Coral Gables, consider visiting Merrick House, the historical former residence of the city’s founder, which may interest those curious about local history.
11.) Vizcaya Museum
Located on a historic estate, the Vizcaya Museum showcases Italian Renaissance architecture and offers a splendid experience for visitors.
