Summary
What Else Makes Winter Great?
I love winter. The cold crisp air, snow, and picturesque beauty always brings fond memories of good times. I always ‘try’ to embrace the cold and enjoy the warmth of a toasty coat and gloves while wrapping my chin within a fluffy scarf. The only thing that could make it any better would be a cinnamon spiced mulled wine. Mmmmm! This is one of the things that enhances the charm of winter.
Moreover, skiing is another fantastic aspect, equally enjoyable and can make you giddy, similar to mulled wine. The winter months mark the peak of Europe’s skiing season, making it an excellent time to explore the numerous resorts across the continent and even in places like Scotland during the deep of winter.
Memory of My First Skiing Experience
My first attempt at skiing was in the beautiful town of Zell am See, Austria, nestled in the picturesque Zell Valley corridor within the Kitzbühel Alps. This area is one of the most stunning places to learn to ski.
Given that this was my initial experience skiing, I made the wise decision to book a few lessons. After all, I promptly realized that I resembled a crab on an ice rink! I appeared far from composed and undoubtedly, the children on the learner slope were side-eyeing me. Thankfully, after a few hours with a very patient instructor, I began to master standing, starting, stopping, and—drum roll, please—turning! It felt quite similar to learning how to ride a bike; once I grasped the basics, everything else fell into place.
Tips for Skiing
Once I found my courage, I ventured to the top of the mountains. Immediately, I was stunned by the breathtaking view; it was unlike anything I had ever experienced. I cherished the tranquility, the dramatic skyline, and of course, the snow-covered terrain. Fortunately, each slope is graded by color to indicate its difficulty level. I managed to master the green slopes with ease, and I even tackled many blue slopes throughout my time in Zell am See, stopping for a few delightful hot cocoas along the way.
Skill Development and Challenges
I eagerly await the opportunity to practice my skiing skills again soon, with the hope that my (lack of) expertise will allow me to tackle a red slope. *gulp*
