Formerly serving as housing for the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort began welcoming guests in 1995. The resort is designed in a camp-inspired style featuring a range of cabins, with 18 of the original structures still in use. The charming dark gray and deep wood exteriors, accented by red roofs, create an idyllic atmosphere.

During a recent visit in fall, my accommodation included a loft-style room furnished with a queen bed and a twin on the lower level, complemented by a full bed accessible via a wooden ladder on the upper floor. The room featured hand-hewn log beds with down comforters, and the stunning wooden details combined with a view of the towering trees made it feel like a stay in a luxurious tree house. Other room types include cozy alcoves for beds, king-size suites, and family bunk cabins.

Named after the nearby Sleeping Lady Mountain, the resort immerses its guests in nature, sitting on the edge of Icicle Creek and enveloped by lush forest. I enjoyed mornings exploring the property while listening to the soothing sounds of water, which made for a relaxing start to the day before venturing into downtown Leavenworth. Evenings were blissful, as I sipped hot chocolate by the fire pit under the starry sky.

While the resort’s amenities, including a spa and diverse dining options, are certainly appealing, it’s the breathtaking backdrop of the Cascade mountain range that contributes to the property’s unique allure.
