Travel Guide: How to Seamlessly Navigate Between El Nido and Coron in Palawan
Coron, Palawan is a picturesque island destination located just north of the more famous El Nido. Nowadays, many tourists prefer to explore both locations on the same trip.
In the past, traveling between El Nido and Coron was quite challenging. There were no direct flights or fast ferry options, which meant a travel disruption through Manila or Cebu, causing both time and financial constraints.
Fortunately, since 2020, the situation has significantly improved! New flights and fast ferries now connect these two stunning destinations in the Philippines. This guide will provide essential details on how to utilize these services effectively!
How To Take The Ferry From El Nido To Coron
Multiple companies operate ferries between Coron and El Nido. For those looking for a quicker ride, you can choose from:
- Jomalia Shipping or Montenegro Shipping Lines – both cover the distance in approximately 3.5 hours. Check prices and schedules here.
We personally traveled with Montenegro, and our experience was seamless. The ferry was comfortable and safe, though it’s advisable to bring a hoodie due to the strong air conditioning.
Additionally, there is a slower service provided by Atienza Shipping Lines, which takes about 5 hours. Given that the costs are nearly the same as the faster ferries, we recommend reserving one of the faster options unless availability becomes an issue. Booking can be done here.
Regardless of the ferry choice, consider booking in advance, as these boats have become increasingly popular among travelers.
Luggage Rules
The ferry companies in Palawan have lenient luggage policies. Montenegro typically allows 2 pieces of luggage per person; based on our experience, they are often flexible. Jomalia might follow a similar approach, while Atienza has a limit of 25 kilograms per passenger. Overall, you shouldn’t face issues unless your luggage is excessively over the limits.
Direct Flights From El Nido To Coron
In the event of ferry cancellations due to storms or rough seas, flying may be a more reliable alternative. In 2019, AirSWIFT launched direct flights from El Nido airport to Coron. You can search for flights on Skyscanner.
The flight duration is just 40 minutes, costing around 4,000 Pesos (approximately $75 USD). This option is generally more reliable than ferry service.
Multi-Day Trips Between El Nido & Coron
