Top Dining Spots in Geneva-on-the-Lake

Geneva-on-the-Lake, located about one hour’s drive east of downtown Cleveland, is a quirky, relaxed, 1950s-style lakefront resort. The town boasts a “Strip” of antique shops, arcade games, waterslides, and wineries as well as a collection of interesting—and tasty—restaurants.

Eddie’s Grill

This 50’s-style eatery is located in the heart of the Geneva-on-the-Lake Strip and features some of the best hot dogs and fries around. The open-air dining area has booths and jukeboxes, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. In addition to the “dogs,” menu highlights include milkshakes, burgers, and ice-cold lemonade. However, it can get crowded on summer weekends, so plan accordingly. Closed from October to Mother’s Day.

Lakehouse Inn and Winery

Tucked away so neatly that even longtime area residents are surprised to discover it, the Lakehouse Inn in Geneva-on-the-Lake offers multiple experiences: a winery, a ten-room Victorian-style inn, beautiful gardens, and a grill restaurant. Moreover, a romantic, lake-view apartment above the winery enhances the experience. The view here is spectacular, with 180-degree, unobstructed vistas of Lake Erie.

The food at the winery is affordable and simple, featuring pizzas and sandwiches, while the grill is known for its Lake Erie perch dinners. Hours vary throughout the season, and all facilities are closed in January.

Sandy Chanty

This quirky and cozy eatery is located in the heart of the Geneva-on-the-Lake strip, at the corner of Lake Avenue and New Street. The restaurant specializes in fresh seafood, overseen by chef Patt Bowen, a formally-trained culinary expert and Cleveland transplant. In addition to a variety of nightly fish specials, the Chanty features unique dishes like lobster lasagna, lobster focaccia, and lobster linguini.

The friendly and cozy dining room includes a unique back bar that once served as an arcade shooting game.

Mary’s Kitchen

Located on New Street, a half-block from the Strip, Mary’s Kitchen has been a perennial favorite in Geneva-on-the-Lake for more than 60 years. Open from Mother’s Day through October, the restaurant provides affordable breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, with daily specials like meatloaf, chicken and biscuits, and Swiss steak. If you’re looking for a comfortable and tasty place to enjoy a meal, Mary’s Kitchen stands out as an excellent choice.

Horizons at the Geneva State Park Lodge

Located inside the Geneva State Park Lodge, Horizons is a popular choice for special occasion dinners or Sunday brunch. The inviting dining room features large picture windows on six sides, offering panoramic views of the lush Lake Erie landscape. In warmer months, diners can enjoy meals on the lakeside patio.

The menu includes Lake Erie walleye, grilled entrees, pasta dishes, and sandwiches, all accompanied by a varied wine list highlighting local northeast Ohio wines.

Alessandro’s

Located just east of Geneva-on-the-Lake, Alessandro’s offers one of the most authentic—and flavorful—Italian menus in northeast Ohio. The restaurant is open from February through December and features a board of nightly specials, all expertly prepared to order by Alessandro himself. This cozy, friendly, romantic eatery is well worth the drive from Cleveland.
