When the sun goes down each day during the holiday season, San Antonio lights up with thousands of twinkling lights. If you’re going to be in the San Antonio area during December, here’s where you can partake in the festivities, Texas-style.
River Walk

Every year, thousands of lights are turned on to illuminate the renowned San Antonio River Walk. The festivities begin on the day after Thanksgiving, which falls on November 23 this year. On that day, the Ford Holiday River Parade is held, providing only ticket holders with access to the River Walk. Starting November 24 and continuing until January 6, everyone can enjoy the 100,000 holiday lights for free. The lights are on nightly from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., providing a spectacular view from dusk to dawn. The River Walk is open 24/7, welcoming all visitors.

The University of the Incarnate Word kicks off the holiday season with a spectacular lighting ceremony featuring entertainment at 6:30 p.m. on November 17. The lights will illuminate the campus nightly until January 6. Attendees can enjoy snacks and drinks from food trucks, browse unique items at the Holiday Shoppe, and enjoy live entertainment and concerts, complemented by a firework display.

The Christmas Light Fest at the Old Wild West-style Enchanted Springs Ranch boasts one of the most dazzling holiday light shows in the San Antonio area. Attendees can walk through several miles of holiday light tunnels on select dates from Thanksgiving to December 16, and every night from December 20-30. Don’t miss Santa’s Village, where you can meet Santa and explore a rustic barn filled with delightful holiday goodies.
Ford Fiesta de las Luminarias

If you prefer a more low-key experience, consider the Ford Fiesta de las Luminarias, held on the River Walk over three weekends in December: November 30 through December 2, December 7-9, and December 14-16. The event features 2,000 luminarias (traditional Mexican Christmas lanterns), lit starting at dusk. Visitors can enjoy this beautiful sight while dining at one of the River Walk’s many restaurants.

SeaWorld San Antonio shimmers with over 9 million lights, claiming to host the largest holiday light display in Texas. The festive event runs from November 17 through January 6, showcasing a stunning winter wonderland. Attendees will also have the chance to meet Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and converse with Santa.
ZooLights at San Antonio Zoo

At ZooLights, visitors can enjoy a unique experience at the San Antonio Zoo with festive decorations and bright Christmas lights. Guests can indulge in hot cocoa, roast marshmallows, and watch the Lakeside Light Show. Additionally, thrilling activities like camel rides and ice skating are available. Santa will also be on-site, offering an excellent opportunity for holiday wishes. The event runs from November 17 through December 31, with hours from noon to 9 p.m., extending to 10 a.m. on Saturdays.
