San Diego is blessed with interesting topography, including beaches, mountains, and canyons. When it comes to views, it’s hard to beat the view atop the Point Loma Peninsula at the Cabrillo National Monument. From here, you take in everything that makes San Diego what it is: the Pacific Ocean on one side, the perfect natural bay, the downtown skyline, the Navy jets on North Island, and the Laguna Mountains in the east. A view from here really gives you a sense of what Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo saw when he discovered San Diego Bay in 1542. There is a nominal parking fee.

2. Mount Soledad

Cowles Mountain ranks as one of the highest peaks in the city at 1,592 feet and is part of Mission Trails Regional Park. 5. Bertrand Mister A’s

Unfortunately, San Diego lacks a towering landmark building where one can enjoy a panoramic view, similar to Seattle’s Space Needle or St. Louis Arch. The closest is Bertrand at Mister A’s. Located in Banker’s Hill atop an office building, it offers the best view of downtown, particularly with planes landing at eye level. Although dinner might be costly, enjoying a drink is highly recommended.

6. San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge

Address: CA-75, Coronado, CA 92118, USA

When crossing the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge, take in the view quickly since there’s no stopping allowed. However, the drive across the bay to Coronado offers a sweeping vista of San Diego Bay, the Silver Strand, Coronado, and downtown. Notably, the bridge, with its magnificent curve, is one of the most visually appealing in the region. Best of all, there’s no toll for crossing, making it a free experience. Just ensure to stay focused on the road while driving.
