Perched over the skyscrapers of Central Hong Kong, Hong Kong Park is a green oasis of peace amidst the chaos of the urban landscape. It serves as an ideal location to take a breath of fresh air while surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. The park features an aviary, the Hong Kong Teaware Museum, and numerous colonial buildings set amid intricately designed gardens.

It would be a misnomer to call Hong Kong Park merely a park, as it lacks the wild setting one might expect. Those anticipating a scene akin to London’s Hyde Park or New York’s Central Park may find themselves surprised. Instead, you will discover a meticulously maintained array of trees, flowers, fountains, and ponds—yet no blades of grass available for a picnic. However, there are plenty of benches to relax with your lunch.
The park’s centerpiece is an artificial lake, which features stunning waterfalls and rock pools. This lake is home to a colony of turtles who enjoy sunbathing on the rocks. Consequently, the park is bordered by Hong Kong’s towering skyscrapers and the slopes of Victoria Peak, making it a fantastic spot for photography. If you arrive just after dawn, you might even witness numerous Tai Chi enthusiasts practicing as the sun rises.
Colonial Buildings in Hong Kong Park
Until 1979, Hong Kong Park was home to the British Victoria Barracks, and several colonial buildings from that era remain. The most notable is Flagstaff House, which was once the opulent residence of the Commander of British Forces in Hong Kong. Today, this historic site houses the Hong Kong Teaware Museum, showcasing a remarkable collection of porcelain and tea-related antiques. Even if tea isn’t your preference, the elegant 19th-century building with wide verandas and cooling columns is definitely worth a visit.
Additionally, the park includes the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, which occupies an imposing former British barrack block.

Throughout the park, visitors will find a few kiosks selling snacks and beverages. Additionally, there is a full-service restaurant located near the lake and waterfall, which has undergone several uninspired transformations. Currently, it features a blend of Thai and Japanese dishes, though it may not appeal to everyone—despite the attractive outdoor dining options.
A great alternative is to stock up on delicious offerings at the Great supermarket located within the Pacific Place shopping mall just beneath the park. It boasts a terrific deli counter where you can find both Chinese and Western snacks and meals.
How to Get to Hong Kong Park
Hong Kong Park is situated at 19 Cotton Tree Drive. The best way to reach it is via the Admiralty MTR station, using Exit C1. Walk through the Pacific Place shopping mall to arrive at the park.
