From regattas that range from playful to serious, to food festivals celebrating local seafood (especially native conch), and even a festival showcasing model boats carved by local residents, which are designed not only for display but also for racing.

Turks and Caicos boasts the world’s only commercial conch farm. Harvesting these stunning and delectable mollusks has been integral to island culture for millennia. The annual Conch Festival held on Provo each December combines culinary delights and entertainment. Local restaurants compete for titles such as Best Conch Chowder and Best Conch Salad, while contestants display their skills in conch blowing and cracking. This vibrant day-long event also features food stands, junkanoo dancing, live music, and spectacular fireworks.

Valentine’s Day Cup, Middle Caicos

Carving model boats was once a relatively overlooked folk art on Middle Caicos until residents initiated an annual race every Valentine’s Day. Made from the indigenous gum-elimi tree, these boats range in size from 16 to 62 inches, with races classified into three sizes. Competitions take place at Bambarra Beach, accompanied by a festival offering local food and handicrafts for sale.

Fool’s Regatta, Providenciales

April Fools’ Day provides the perfect backdrop for an unconventional race involving homemade rafts. Though the race has since been adjusted to the summer months (most recently in June), the whimsical spirit of the event remains intact. Beyond the main race, attendees can enjoy Hobie Cat races, local sloop competitions, children’s activities, and an abundance of food and drink. The celebration occurs at the Children’s Park at the west end of Grace Bay Beach.

Similar festivities are held in Grand Turk, North Caicos, and Middle Caicos, with events varying from egg hunts to tug-of-war contests.

Big South Regatta

The fishing capital of Turks & Caicos hosts the Big South Regatta, also known as the South Caicos Regatta. This prominent annual boat race, held in May, attracts boating enthusiasts from across the country. The four-day celebration revolves around sailing and speedboat races, allowing spectators to watch from both land and sea. Beyond the races, guests can enjoy concerts, dancing, beauty pageants, and even donkey races, which have been part of this festive tradition since 1967.
