Turin Airport: Your Gateway to Northern Italy

Turin, or Torino airport, Caselle Aeroporto Internazionale di Torino, is 16 km (10 miles) north of the city center. This essential transport hub serves as a convenient entry point for travelers heading to northern Italy and neighboring regions.

1. Overview of Turin Airport

The airport opened in the 1950s and underwent significant renovations prior to the 2006 Winter Olympics. These updates included terminal expansion, modern boarding lounges, increased bus capacity, and additional boarding gates. Consequently, it now offers flights to and from various European countries as well as other Italian cities. Although smaller than Milan Malpensa Airport, which is located 140 km away, Turin airport is an advantageous alternative for regional flights, making it a prime departure point for trips to northern Italy, the South of France, and western Switzerland.

Some of the larger airlines serving Turin airport include Alitalia, AirFrance, British Airways, EasyJet, RyanAir, and Vueling.

2. Transportation to Turin City Center

Express Rail Service: The railway station is conveniently located near the air terminal. Rail service connects the air terminal with GTT Dora Station in northwestern Turin, completing the journey in approximately 19 minutes. The service also stops at Madonna di Campagna. Train departures begin around 5 AM, with the last train for the airport leaving at about 11 PM, while the final train from the airport departs at 9 PM. It is recommended to purchase your train ticket at the ticket office located in the Arrivals terminal. Additionally, a full-day ticket that covers public transport in Turin is available.

Bus Service: Regular bus service operates between downtown and Turin Airport, making several stops along the way, including Porta Nuova main railway station and Porta Susa railway station. The bus departs from Porta Nuova every 30 minutes during peak hours or every 45 minutes at other times, running from about 5:15 AM to 11:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased from a bar nearby the bus station.

The bus picks up passengers from the arrivals level right in front of the exit. Tickets are obtainable via ticket machines or can be bought at the tourist office or newsstand in the departure lounge. Service hours stretch from approximately 6 AM to midnight.

Taxi: Taxis are readily available at the designated taxi rank located to the left at the exit of the Arrivals level.

Car Rental: For convenience, car rental offices are located in the arrivals level near the exit. It is often beneficial to secure competitive pricing by reserving in advance (before your arrival in Italy), particularly through services such as Auto Europe. However, for those staying in Turin’s city center, renting a car is not recommended due to excellent public transportation options and challenges with driving and parking in the city.

3. Milan’s Malpensa Airport

Travelers from the United States may arrive at Milan’s Malpensa Airport, a major international airport situated north of Milan. From there, a bus service is available to Milan’s main train station. A train from this station to Turin takes approximately 1.5 hours. Plus, Milan’s Linate airport also offers various flights to and from Europe.
