Traffic to and from the Indiana State Fair can be really frustrating. If you live in Fishers, taking a train to the fair may be an option. The Indiana Transportation Museum FairTrain is a tradition that has gained popularity as traffic and the State Fair’s appeal have grown.

Travel time one-way is approximately 30 minutes for the 11-mile trip. Travelers can choose among 9 daily departure and return times. The FairTrain departs from Fishers (the first floor of the new Switch building on Municipal Drive) to the depot just across the street from Gate 6 of the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center. Parking in Fishers may be reached by following the signs on 116th St. or 126th St to Lantern Rd., south to Municipal Drive.

Please arrive 30 minutes before your chosen departure time to allow time for ticket purchases.

Schedule and Fares

The fares for this train are as follows:

  • $13 round-trip for adults (age 13 and up)
  • $9 for children ages 2 through 12
  • Free for children under the age of 2

Take advantage of discount days on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays:

  • $12 round-trip for adults (age 13 and up)
  • $8 for children ages 2 through 12
  • Free for children under the age of 2

The Fairgrounds Station is at 39th Street, just a short walk across the historic 39th Street Bridge over Fall Creek to the crossing at Fall Creek Parkway and Gate 6 of the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Seating on this train is open. Reservations are not needed and cannot be made for this train.

Indiana Transportation Museum and Rail Adventure Pass Options

The Indiana Transportation Museum is a nonprofit heritage railroad that operates a number of excursions along 34 miles of former Nickel Plate Road track. The organization is committed to preserving and showcasing Indiana’s railroad history. Throughout the year, the ITM offers trips aboard historically preserved rail equipment. Events include the very popular Polar Bear Express event, Lights Over Morse Lake, Open Air rides, and much more. Experience authentic railroad travel with the ITM and through the State Fair train.

With this pass, you can enjoy unlimited train travel and discover everything cities and towns along the line have to offer.
