Float the Guad in Nearby New Braunfels

New Braunfels offers excellent access to the Texas-famous Guadalupe River, where “floating the Guad” originated. This destination provides an array of recreational opportunities including float tubing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing. Although it is not technically in San Antonio, it is conveniently located just a short 30-minute drive away.

Hike at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

Enchanted Rock, one of Texas’ most iconic natural attractions, stands as one of the largest natural rock formations in the United States. Rising 425 feet above the ground, it is located just north of Fredericksburg, in a region once called the Texas “Indian Territory.” Today, this State Natural Area is a popular hiking destination, featuring a four-mile trail that encompasses several formations as well as a shorter, steeper foot path leading to the summit. Campsites are also available for overnight visitors.

Enjoy the Frio River at Garner State Park

Located on the Frio River in Concan, about an hour from San Antonio, Garner State Park is one of Texas’ most favored summer destinations. Visitors can enjoy a variety of water activities, including swimming, fishing, paddling, and tubing. However, the park also offers “dry” activities such as miniature golf, bird watching, nature trails, and hiking.
