Here are a few of our favorite spots where you can appreciate the beauty of the Great Lake.
01. Atwater Park
This five-acre public park and beach, located in the near-north suburb of Shorewood, features an art sculpture titled “Spillover II” by Jaume Plensa, which offers stunning views of Lake Michigan. Families can enjoy the playground while the beach typically remains less crowded despite the park’s popularity.
02. Discovery World’s Rooftop
Located adjacent to the Milwaukee Art Museum and Lakeshore State Park, Discovery World is a fascinating science and technology center. If you find yourself at an event here, be sure to visit the rooftop patio, where breathtaking 180-degree views of Lake Michigan can be enjoyed.
03. Milwaukee Art Museum
Renowned as the crown jewel of Milwaukee’s lakefront, this world-class art museum is positioned just east of downtown. Behind the museum lies Santiago Calatrava’s Quadracci Pavilion, distinguished by its magnificent white wings. This modern architectural design harmoniously blends with its natural surroundings, while the paved path hugging the lakeshore provides superb photo opportunities.
04. McKinley Marina
This bustling marina, nestled between Bradford Beach and Veterans Park, provides a perfect spot to admire the various boats docked here. On sunny, warm days, the horizon is often embellished with the silhouette of white sails!
05. Klode Park
For a quieter experience, visit Klode Park located about 15 minutes north of downtown Milwaukee. Accessible via a scenic drive along North Lake Drive, this park features a paved path leading to the beach. Be prepared for a bit of a walk down, so wear comfortable shoes!
06. South Shore Yacht Club
Enjoy views of Milwaukee’s skyline from this yacht club, situated just 10 minutes south of downtown. This location is ideal for capturing the moonlit nights or sunrises. For those wanting a longer walk, a paved path extends behind South Shore Park, leading to nearby communities.
07. Grant Park Beach
At Grant Park Beach, it’s easy to forget you’re in a city. This stunning 380-acre wooded park offers some of the best hiking near Milwaukee. Wildlife such as deer and herons abound, adding to the park’s charm, while the picturesque Seven Bridges Trail is perfect for memorable engagement photos. The beach area on the eastern edge serves as a serene retreat compared to the busier Bradford Beach.
