The annual George Washington’s Birthday Parade in Old Town Alexandria stands as the largest tribute to the country’s first president in the United States, making it one of the most vibrant President’s Day events in the Washington, D.C. area.

Important Information for the Parade

The George Washington Birthday Parade kicks off at the intersection of Gibbon and South Fairfax streets in Old Town Alexandria on Monday, February 17, 2020. The reviewing stand will be positioned near City Hall’s Market Square at the intersection of King and Royal Streets, and the parade route concludes at Wilkes and South Royal streets.

Covering a one-mile distance, the parade meanders through the historic streets of George Washington’s former hometown, providing ample viewing spots to catch the excitement. However, those wishing to participate in the parade must register by February 1 of the year.

To reach the event, attendees can use the metro system, alighting at King Street, Braddock Road, Eisenhower Avenue, or Van Dorn stations. Complimentary DASH shuttle bus service will be provided downtown from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., seamlessly connecting with Metrobus, Metrorail, Virginia Railway Express, and local bus systems. Additionally, the Free King Street Trolley will operate all day until 11 p.m. from the King St-Old Town Metro station, while numerous parking options are available in proximity to the parade route.
