Where to Buy Pre-cut Christmas Trees or Cut Down Your Own

Nothing brings to mind the holidays like the lovely sights and scents of a Christmas tree, gleaming with garlands and sparkling decorations. Whether you want to cut down your own tree or prefer buying a freshly-cut one, here are some Christmas tree farms on Long Island where you can purchase evergreens that have been grown right here.

Brightwaters Farms

Brightwaters Farms has been around since the late 1600s. The farm is open daily for the holiday season from the day after Thanksgiving through December 24th. Hours: Sunday through Thursday: 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Friday & Saturday: 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Purchase a pre-cut tree, and then let the kids enjoy the family fun at the farm’s Holiday Light Show and hayrides. Dart’s Tree Farm

Located in Southold on Long Island’s North Fork, this three-generation family-owned farm features trees that you can cut down yourself. Choose from Fraser fir or Douglas fir. Hand saws will be provided (No power saws, please.) The tree farm is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., from the day after Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve.

The kids will enjoy the free hayrides on weekends, and Santa and his elves will be on hand, usually from 12 noon to 4 p.m. on weekends, weather permitting.

Lewin Farms

Cut-your-own or pre-cut trees are available on Lewin Farms’ 100+ acres of Christmas trees. The evergreens range from four to twelve feet in height and you can also buy trees to plant on your property.

Starting the first weekend after Thanksgiving each year, the farm is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until the weekend before Christmas.

Matt’s Christmas Tree Farm

Open daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve. Choose from over 10,000 trees, ranging from 2-foot tall table toppers to 14-foot trees. Cut your own or buy pre-cut or live trees ready for planting. Choose from Norway-, Blue- or White spruce trees, Balsam-, Concolor- or Douglas firs, Colorado Blue Spruce and more.

Santa’s Christmas Tree Farm

Since 1979, Santa’s Christmas Tree Farm has raised vibrant evergreens to grace the homes of Long Islanders during the holidays. Their store, which they bill as “The Largest Christmas Shop in the Northeast,” features a wide variety of tree trimmings, Christmas candles, specialty items, personalized items, and much more. Hours after Thanksgiving: daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shamrock Christmas Tree Farm

The Shamrock Christmas Tree Farm has been family-owned and operated since 1987. Choose from Fraser firs, Douglas firs, or hybrid balsams. You have the option to cut your own or purchase pre-cut trees. Santa visits the farm every weekend from noon to 5 p.m. There are train rides and an antique sled display.

Tilden Lane Farm

This family-run farm in Greenlawn is open only on weekends from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Choose from Blue, Norway, Serbian, or White spruce trees, Concolor, or Douglas fir trees. Elwood Pumpkin Farm

In addition to wonderful pick-your-own pumpkins, Elwood Pumpkin Farm in Huntington also sells their Christmas trees—Fraser fir, Douglas fir, white pine, Norway spruce, and blue spruce—grown on about 20 acres of land. They open the day after Thanksgiving from 10 a.m. till dark and the pre-cut trees are sold until 8 p.m. Weekday hours: from 3 p.m. till dark, with pre-cut trees sold until 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday hours: from 10 a.m. till dark, trees sold until 8 p.m.
