An OKC Favorite
Cattlemen’s has been a staple since 1910. In 1945, Gene Wade acquired it through a lucky dice roll, famously branded on the wall as the “hard 3’s.” Widely regarded among Oklahoma City residents, it’s the go-to place for exceptional steak and lamb fries and has been featured on the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.”
Although I have yet to try lamb fries, which are touted as a restaurant specialty, Cattlemen’s Steakhouse remains one of my top dining choices in the metro area. The venue caters to both casual and upscale dining, offering some of the finest steak available. Additionally, there are many other delightful options to discover.
Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by warm, deep brown wooden decor. Cattlemen’s embodies a relaxed diner vibe, adorned with nostalgic drawings of old cowboys and historic photos of Stockyard City. It provides an inviting atmosphere, perfect for indulging in a classic Oklahoma steak without any formality.
You have the option to dine in a laid-back setting up front or the more refined leather booths in the back room. Regardless of your choice, you can look forward to an enjoyable meal.
Menu Delights
The menu presents a variety of pre-meal drinks and appetizers. While the potato skins topped with bacon bits and sour cream are a must-try, be sure to save room for your main course. Each meal comes accompanied by a salad (I highly recommend the creamy garlic-cheddar house dressing), a choice of potato, and a couple of substantial, freshly baked dinner rolls.
Steak remains the star at Cattlemen’s, though there are many other enticing options. Choices including catfish, chicken, spaghetti, chicken-fried steak, and a selection of sandwiches are available, ranging from approximately $12 to $30.
Regardless of how you prefer your steak cooked, the attentive wait staff is committed to ensuring your satisfaction. Don’t be surprised if your server takes a moment to help you decide. Personally, I tend to lean toward medium, and I’ve always found Cattlemen’s steaks to be consistently tender and immensely flavorful.
One of the Best
As a long-standing establishment, Cattlemen’s should be considered a must-visit for anyone new to the Oklahoma City area, especially steak lovers. Even those who have lived in the metro for a while but haven’t yet tried it should ensure that this restaurant is on their radar. It offers a versatile dining experience for nearly any occasion, whether it be a cozy lunch or an intimate dinner out.
With reasonable prices and a comfortable ambiance, it’s challenging to find anyone with negative remarks about Cattlemen’s. The diligent service and enjoyable food will likely have you eager to return soon.
