Many tropical destinations are overrun with tourists, overpriced, or both. Bali is neither. It is possible to experience luxury while visiting Bali on a budget.

Bali is the most popular island in the Indonesian archipelago and is one of the most incredible destinations on the planet. Not to mention, it’s easy to travel Bali on a budget for couples and solo travelers alike!

Bali – The Best Luxury Destination on a Budget

Luxury Four Seasons Resort

We have literally never been anywhere in the world where we felt as if we were getting a better value for our dollar. You not only have incredible purchasing power in Bali ($1 = about 14,000 IDR), but you also get quality products and services.

Whether you’re planning a honeymoon or simply a romantic getaway, Bali is the perfect place for couples to travel on a budget.

Affordable Accommodation in Bali

Choose Airbnbs

Imagine a beautiful island where goods and services are very affordable. This means that everything from guesthouses to 5-star resorts are built for luxury and at a fraction of the cost they would incur in a place like Hawaii.

Homestays in Bali

You can find beautiful home-stays with pools and gorgeous gardens, with hospitality that rivals the islands’ best resorts. Most of the good homestays also include breakfast and provide for your room to be cleaned and restocked with toiletries daily.

If you’ve been following our travels, then you’re familiar with our love for unique accommodations. However, in Bali, we prefer guest houses and resorts. Our favorite guest houses ranged from $30-50/night.

If you stay in Sanur, be sure to check out Kolonial House, where we spent a significant portion of our time in Bali.

Cheap Massages and Spa Treatments in Bali

Relax in a spa

In the US, you’ll generally spend about $75-150/hour for a decent massage. This used to be our norm, but now we find it hard to justify paying for anything more than a basic foot or Thai massage.

In Bali, however, you can go to a luxury spa and get a 90-minute couples massage for just $13 each, including essential oils at no additional cost and delicious tea following your treatment.

Sanur’s Leha Leha – Top Budget Massage Choice

Luxury on a budget in Bali

Our favorite massage spot is located in Sanur and is called Leha Leha. This place provides some of the best massages we have ever had in our lives. If you happen to be in that area, definitely check it out! Your body will thank you.

Affordable Outdoor Activities in Bali

Plenty of budget outdoor activities in Bali

Have you always wanted to surf, but never wanted to pay the hundreds of dollars for a board and lessons? Fear not! In Bali, you can rent a board and your very own teacher for around $10 an hour.

Surfing together in Bali is one of our fondest memories. Most beaches in Bali with good surf will also offer simple board rentals for about 50k IDR – 100k IDR, or about $3.50 – $7.00. A bit of advice: if you can rent “booties” as well, do so. Bali’s reef is stunning for snorkeling and scuba diving, but it is also very sharp.

Date Nights – Dates on a Budget in Bali

Romance Ideas for Date Night in Bali

Back home, we dine out very sparingly as we are always saving for our next adventure. However, in Bali, eating out can cost as little as $2 per meal! While restaurants at 5-star resorts are comparable to those in the States, local cuisine offers an affordable and delicious experience.

Great Food on a Budget

Budget dining ideas

Local dishes are super affordable and extraordinarily tasty. Even touristy restaurants shouldn’t cost more than $10/person. We typically spent about $10-15/night for a dinner date at one of our favorite restaurants. Just about every village has fantastic beachfront restaurants, providing numerous romantic options.

Royal Treatment on a Budget in Bali

The Balinese people are among the most benevolent, friendly, and hospitable individuals we have encountered. This goes for just about everyone on the island, especially those in service positions. Whether it’s a massage or simply a server at a restaurant, the locals treat you like royalty.

You’ll make a wealth of friends and feel like royalty as you are welcomed by the wonderful people of Bali.

Bali Culture

Balinese Culture

This is a continuation of the island’s unparalleled hospitality. With 97% of the Balinese people being Hindu, they are devout and passionate about their religion. You can participate in religious celebrations, ceremonies, and festivals on a weekly basis for FREE, providing an extraordinary cultural experience.

The awe-inspiring Hindu culture emphasizes living in harmony with the four main goals of human life: Dharma, Samsara, Karma, and Moksha. You and your partner will love immersing yourselves in this rich culture!

Bali is Fairly Accessible

A good budget place in Bali is Ubud

For being a small island nestled in the Indian Ocean, Bali is quite accessible. If you fly into Singapore or Tokyo, you’ll find it easy to reach Bali.

Getting to Bali

Affordable beach activities

Traveling from the US can be lengthy, but flights from Singapore are very affordable, and flights from Tokyo are reasonable, especially if you’re using miles.

Taxes on reward flights from Bali are also very budget-friendly.

For instance, we redeemed Delta miles to travel from Bali to Tokyo on our way back to the States and only paid roughly $20 in taxes for each passenger. If you fly into Singapore, you can catch a 2.5-hour flight to Bali for about $100. Thus, thinking big-picture is crucial, especially when traveling on a budget.
