Tromso ranks as one of the world’s premier locations for experiencing the northern lights. During my visit, I had the wonderful surprise of witnessing the aurora borealis for four consecutive nights!

To catch a glimpse of the northern lights, participating in a guided tour is the simplest approach. Within Tromso, numerous tour operators offer a variety of northern lights tours, catering to all budgets, from individual excursions to affordable group journeys.
Being a budget traveler, I chose Chasing Lights on their Big Bus Tour, which exceeded my expectations. The guides were professional, courteous, and even lent camera gear to capture photos of guests against the backdrop of the lights.
Although these tours can be somewhat pricey, the big bus tour helped reduce costs. Alternatively, if you prefer more flexibility in your chase for the lights, a private tour is also available.
2. Try Dogsledding
An exhilarating adventure for thrill-seekers in Tromso is a day of dog sledding.
Many tour operators in Tromso provide travelers with the opportunity to learn how to ride on a dog sled. This means you can hop aboard a sled pulled by energetic huskies and race through the snowy landscape like an Iditarod musher.
With minimal sunlight during winter, you can even choose to embark on a nighttime dogsledding tour, offering a chance to see the northern lights during your adventure—truly a two-for-one experience!

The simplest route from international locations is to fly into Oslo International Airport (OSL) and then take a domestic flight to Tromso (TOS).
Prominent airlines that operate flights to Tromso include SAS and Norwegian Airlines.
Where to Stay in Tromso
Budget: Travelers on a tight budget may find Tromso challenging in terms of pricing. However, Tromso Activities Hostel offers affordable dorm beds in a central location and can assist in organizing budget-friendly tours.
Mid-Range: If given a choice, I would have opted for Tromso Bed & Books, a charming inn boasting adorable rooms at reasonable prices for the area.
Splurge: While Tromso may not feature extravagant hotels, the Clarion Hotel The Edge comes close with its central location, excellent maintenance, and spacious rooms offering striking views.
