Motorcycle Routes Ontario

Ontario is filled with great motorcycle routes. We’re blessed with an abundance of wide-open spaces, pristine scenery, and excellent roads. If there is one place to ride a motorcycle in this world, it is in Ontario. We have thousands of miles of nearly deserted backroads taking you along the Great Lakes, wilderness, and farmland.

Our Grey Bruce Superloop motorcycle ride spanned 800km over 3 days. This is one of our favourite parts of Ontario, and it is a place that we have explored extensively.

As new M1 riders, we must legally be off our bikes a half hour before sunset. Consequently, our days were spent riding at a steady pace without pushing too hard. Riding a motorbike can be exhausting; with 500cc of power and other traffic to monitor, our minds became mentally drained, and our bodies felt the stress of gripping the handlebars for hours.

For first-time riders, we wouldn’t recommend completing this entire route in three days. However, for experienced riders, it presents no significant challenges. If you’re a beginner, consider opting for a shorter loop or a portion of this route.

There are numerous attractions to see in the Grey Bruce area, allowing you to tailor your ride to a more comfortable pace with fewer stops to fully enjoy the journey.

Things to do in Bruce County

Bruce County features one of the finest motorcycle routes in Ontario, taking us on a scenic three-day ride along Lake Huron’s Bruce Peninsula.

Kincardine Lighthouse

The historic lighthouse in Kincardine offers a fascinating tour. Dating back to 1880, the Kincardine Lighthouse is currently maintained by the yacht club. A dedicated group of volunteers ensures it remains in excellent condition, allowing visitors access to the marine museum showcasing several historical artifacts, as well as the opportunity to climb to the top of the lighthouse.

Wiarton Willie

Wiarton is known for Wiarton Willie, Canada’s answer to the renowned Punxsutawney Phil. We took a detour to Wiarton in hopes of catching a glimpse of our famous groundhog, but Willie was burrowed deep in the dirt enjoying the warm sunshine. Though we didn’t see him, Wiarton is worth a visit due to its beautiful bay and pleasant town atmosphere.

Sauble Beach

As one of Ontario’s premier beaches, Sauble Beach stretches 11km long, making it the second-longest freshwater beach in the world! Although it was a bit early in the season for beach outings during our ride, the scenic coastal route made it a beautiful journey.

Women’s Institute

Continuing into Grey County, we stopped at the Women’s Institute Lookout to enjoy the view. This historical gathering place, where women met in the 1800s, serves as a reminder of women’s challenges and empowerment efforts. It brought to mind our visit to a women’s circle in Kenya, where women discuss similar issues and collaboratively support each other.

Inglis Falls

One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Inglis Falls, one of eight stunning waterfalls in Grey County. Motorcyclists can enjoy a waterfall tour in this area, with convenient parking and only a short walk to view the scenic waterfall.

Where to Eat

Hoity Toity Cellars

While riding a motorbike, it’s important to avoid alcohol, but stopping at Hoity Toity Cellars allows you to meet locals. Owner Gary is quite the character and shares engaging stories from his upbringing on a nearby farm. We enjoyed a tour of his facility while bringing home some cider for later enjoyment.

Solas on Sauble Beach – Patio

This eatery caters specifically to bikers, even offering a designated parking area. Visitors can relax on the patio during summer while savoring a coffee or deep-fried Mars Bar, all while keeping an eye on their motorcycles.

Harley’s Pub and Perk

Not far from the town of Hanover, many bikers stop at Harley’s Pub and Perk in Neustadt. Their award-winning butter tarts are a must-try.

Where to Stay in Lion’s Head Ontario

We stayed at Taylor Made B&B, managed by the lively and hospitable Barb and Dave. This cozy B&B features mouthwatering European-style breakfasts, loaded with local cheese, meats, and produce, making it difficult to resist second servings.

Where to Stay in Walkerton Ontario

The Best Western in Walkerton provides a well-maintained hotel experience, complete with modern amenities including a swimming pool and inviting corner jacuzzi in our room. With chic decor and comfortable bedding, this hotel stands out as an excellent choice for the mid-range hotel market.

Tips for Ontario Motorcycle Touring

We suggest planning your route wisely and allowing ample time to return home, incorporating rest stops along the way. Avoid making the same mistakes we did; don’t take on more than you can handle and dedicate time to plan thoughtfully.

Motorcycling requires significant concentration; thus, ensuring you are not fatigued will enhance your enjoyment of the ride.
