As a committed Canon user, this camera has served us exceptionally well over the past year, capturing stunning video footage as well. Its full image sensor allows for wide-angle lenses to perform optimally, making it a reliable choice for photography in Antarctica.
Canon EOS Rebel T3i 18 MP
This trip marks the first time we’re taking a second camera body. Featuring a crop sensor, it extends the reach of Dave’s lenses and serves as an essential backup should anything happen to our primary camera.
Olympus PEN E-P2 with 17mm f/2.8 Lens
Bringing this camera allows us to have a compact option with a fast lens for spontaneous moments. Easily storable in a ziplock bag, it’s perfect for quickly capturing unexpected adventures, while our waterproof cameras will be used for most of our zodiac activities.

This super sharp lens excels in landscape photography, making it a crucial addition to our gear for capturing the majestic scenery of Antarctica. It’s Dave’s oldest and favorite lens, freshly recalibrated and ready for use.
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II IS
Though heavy, this lens is a staple for professional photographers and essential for getting up-close shots of the wildlife!
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II is a compact and affordable portrait lens, well-suited for our needs without breaking the bank.

Increased waterproof capabilities are essential for this trip. Equipped with two Olympus Waterproof cameras, we will capture every thrilling moment during our kayaking excursions.
The Olympus Tough TG-810 is incredibly versatile—it’s waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof, and crushproof, making it the ideal choice for the rugged conditions of Antarctica.
Video Equipment
Panasonic GH1 – Perfectly suited for our video needs, this micro four-thirds camera is lightweight and capable of fantastic HD video quality.
Its been a reliable tool for capturing remarkable moments across various countries, and now it plays a significant role in our Antarctica exploration.
Rode VideoMic Pro VMP Shotgun Microphone
This microphone enhances our video quality significantly, isolating sound from external vibrations to achieve clarity, which is crucial for documenting our Antarctic adventure.

We adore this camera for its capability to capture extreme sports and adventures. With two of these on our Antarctica journey, we’re set to document incredible underwater moments.
