Banah Cliff Point in Nusa Penida: A Breathtaking Travel Guide

Last July, a buddy and I revisited one of my favorite spots in Nusa Penida — Banah Cliff Point!

The great thing about Banah is that it features multiple viewpoints along the cliffs. At each viewpoint, visitors can walk right up to the edge of the cliff and gaze down at the waves crashing against the rocks.

This travel guide will explain how to get there, along with everything you need to know before planning your visit!

Banah Sunset Point

The first time I visited Banah, I accidentally overlooked one of the main viewpoints, which was actually quite prominent.

As you enter the parking area, take a right, and you will discover a significant cliff drop offering panoramic views of the Penida coastline stretching into the distance.

This location is known as the “sunset point” of Banah. It’s an ideal spot for those who wish to witness a breathtaking sunset.

Banah Cliff Point

If you take a left and follow the cliff’s edge (with caution), you’ll encounter the Banah rock—a cool doughnut-shaped formation protruding from the ocean.

There is a descending concrete staircase that allows visitors to walk out to the point and capture photographs with the Banah rock in the background.

From the cliff, it’s common to spot tiny manta rays and speedboats floating amidst the ocean below. It’s an exhilarating experience!

How To Get There

Banah Cliff Point is situated on the west side of Nusa Penida island. It’s accessible by car or scooter and typically takes about 1 hour to drive from the main docks and accommodations located in northern Penida.

Exercise caution if you choose to ride a scooter, as the road leading to Banah is among the roughest in Penida and can pose dangers in some areas if you don’t proceed slowly!

Where We Stayed

We stayed at Saren Villa on the north coast of Nusa Penida, paying 240k Rupiah ($15 USD) for a private double room featuring cold A/C, hot shower, and reliable WiFi.

This option is among the most affordable on the island and is conveniently located near the best dining options. We were quite pleased with our choice.

Prices can vary, so it’s wise to remain vigilant for a good deal.
