Explore Danang in 48 Hours: Golden Bridge to Marble Mountains

Explore Danang: A Vibrant Itinerary

Danang is booming. Once viewed as simply a gateway to Hoi An, this vibrant Central Vietnamese city, home to one million residents, now demands its own recognition.

Statement-making, illuminated bridges span the breezy esplanades of the Han River, dividing the city into two distinct areas: a rising district of condo towers along golden-sand beaches to the east, and a bustling center filled with sidewalk vendors serving unique regional dishes. Danang is easily worth a couple of days, and here’s a suggested itinerary to help you explore.

Day One

Morning

Start your day like the locals do, by indulging in mi quang noodles. This dish is often referred to as the soul of the city; it truly delivers a bowl of joy. Flat rice noodles are filled with just a hint of herb-filled broth, and topped with greens, bean sprouts, shrimp, pork, chili sauce, and for added crunch, a rice cracker. There’s no other Vietnamese dish quite like it.

For a delicious bowl of mi quang, head to Mi Quang Phu Nhiem (441 Ong Ich Khiem St), a local favorite run by Ms. Trang for the past 15 years. Be sure to arrive early, as they are only open from 6 to 10 a.m.

After satisfying your breakfast cravings, stroll through the charming back streets towards the riverside Museum of Cham Sculpture. This century-old building, which showcases the culture of the Cham civilization, features exquisite sculptures and inscriptions. Aim to arrive by 8 a.m. to avoid the tour buses.

Next, head to the lively Han Market (119 Tran Phu St) to explore local shops and cafes. Don’t miss out on Cống Cafe (39–41 Nguyễn Thái Học) for a uniquely themed coffee stop. After your coffee break, check out the Gothic-style Danang Cathedral, built in 1923, famous for its bright pink facade.

Afternoon

As the afternoon rolls around, it’s time for tacos on the beach. Take a taxi to Taco Ngon for a delicious bite of their fresh fish, pork, or chicken tacos. Enjoy them on the stunning My Khe Beach, also known as China Beach, where you can relax under shady palm trees.

After some time at the beach, consider visiting the Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son). Just a short 15-minute cab ride will take you to this site, known for its jagged mounds topped with temples and filled with atmospheric caves.

Evening

For dinner, Nén is a must-visit garden villa restaurant that brings together Vietnamese culinary innovations. The focus here is on fusion dishes, using local ingredients for a unique dining experience.

Conclude your evening at 7 Bridges Brewing, where you can enjoy the local award-winning IPA while admiring the changing lights of the nearby Dragon Bridge. Don’t miss the dragon’s fire show at 9 p.m. on weekends, which attracts thousands of onlookers.

Day Two

Morning

Your second day should start with a visit to the Instagram-famous Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills Resort. Held up by the ‘hands of God,’ this striking bridge has become a must-see sight. To truly appreciate its charm, get there early to avoid crowds.

Be prepared for a scenic 45-minute drive west of Da Nang, and keep in mind that the entrance fee is approximately 679,000 VND for adults. The views of lush jungle and the breathtaking cable car ride are well worth it.

Make an early start to experience the bridge with fewer crowds. Plan to spend at least four or five hours exploring the park, ensuring you return to Danang by early afternoon.

Afternoon

For relaxation, visit Holiday Beach Club, renowned for its inviting atmosphere. With shaded seating, a beach library, and plenty of food and drink options, it’s an ideal place to unwind while soaking in the views of the East Sea.

If you’re up for a bit of adventure, consider renting a motorbike and riding north to Son Tra Peninsula. Here, you can explore the gorgeous coastal views and visit the monumental Lady Buddha statue at Chua Ninh Ung, which offers panoramic views of Danang’s coastline.

Evening

On your final night, consider joining the engaging Danang Food Tour, which offers a delightful exploration of local cuisine, featuring a four-hour nomadic feast along both sides of the river.

If you prefer a quieter evening, take a serene 45-minute boat ride along the Han River, where you’ll be treated to the dazzling lights of the Danang skyline. After your boat trip, enjoy delicious seafood at a nearby barbecue restaurant along Vo Nguyen Giap St.
